FAQ

How do you use device mockups? How can I add my own content to a mockup?

Device mockups are easy and intuitive to use. Most mockup files contain a folder with an editable image and a PDF or JPG file, at a minimum.

You’ll be interacting with the editable image, while the PDF or JPG is there to help you visualize how the final product will display

To create your own custom mockup:

  1. Unzip the mockup file.
  2. Open the file in Adobe Photoshop or Sketch and familiarize yourself with the file layers. These layers are what you’ll be editing in order to replace the template with your own content. Each layer has a space for you to replace a placeholder with your own unique imagery.
  3. Next, locate the Smart Object, which is an image that you can flexibly edit without ever damaging the original quality. The Smart Object is essentially a protective layer that encompasses the original image within, allowing you to make exterior edits that you can endlessly change without affecting the quality of the original source.
  4. Once located, you’ll want to insert your own content into the Smart Object layer. To do this, simply drag and drop your design into the file to swap the placeholder content with your own artwork.
  5. Now, you’re ready to save and view the mockup which now displays your very own, unique content.

What is a device mockup?

Mockups are pre-created, customizable images that you can drag and drop your own content into. They are intended as placeholders to show you how your content may look once inserted. Device mockups make it easy for you to add your app designs and screen grabs to realistic scenes that allow people to see what your app will look like in everyday life.

They also allow you to seamlessly market your app via both digital and print advertising. Ramotion has dozens of carefully crafted iPhone mockups ready for you to use today.
